This product converts a
CompactFlash CF slot into a PCMCIA PC card slot.
Users can insert this product into a type I or type II CompactFlash
(CF) slot of a
device (such as Pocket PC, PDA, PC, USB card reader, etc.), so the host device has a PC Card slot to operate 16-bit PC Cards
including ATA flash memory PC Card and others.
This CF-to-PCMCIA adapter is composed of a type I
CompactFlash card and a standard PCMCIA socket, as shown in the picture.

This CompactFlash to PC Card adapter allows the host devices
(Pocket PC, PDA, computer, USB card reader, etc.) equipped with a CompactFlash/CF slot to operate 16-bit PCMCIA PC cards.
In other words, this adapter converts a Type I or
Type II CompactFlash (CF) slot of a host device into a standard 16-bit Type I/II
PCMCIA PC Card slot. With this expander in the CF slot, the host device
can
access PCMCIA cards such as ATA flash PC Card, etc.
This adapter also allows the host devices equipped with
a Compact Flash slot to operate
other 16-bit PCMCIA PC Cards including LAN card,
modem card, GPS receiver card, GSM/GPRS card, hard drives card, etc., so long as the
electrical characteristics match and the host device has drivers
for supporting the PC Card in

This CF-to-PCMCIA PC Card converter is a passive
interface from a 50-pin CompactFlash slot equipped host to a 68-pin PC Card.
Voltage conversion/regulation or signal level conversion is not provided.

Warnings
- Does not support iPAQ 22XX series due to
voltage constraint on the PDA

- Does not support 32-bit CardBus cards.
[32-bit cards can be distinguished by a gold stripe on the end that is
inserted into the PC card slot.]
Inserting a 32-bit PCMCIA CardBus PC card can damage the slot and/or card
- Driver Availability - The user should
first verify if the driver support is provided by the PC Card vendor to use
with Pocket PC.
- Address Lines: The PC Card interface
has 26 address lines while a CompactFlash slot can only provide 11 address
lines. Most modern PC Cards do not utilize the extra address lines. However,
users should verify this information before purchase.

- The adapter itself has no power
requirements, but the PC Card used with it has requirements.
- Operating Voltage: Typical
CompactFlash slots, including those on Pocket PCs, only provide
3.3V. The user should insure the operating voltage of a PC Card used
with this adapter is compatible with the host device's voltage.
- Amperage: Typical Compact
Flash slots, including those on Pocket PCs, supply up to 500mA of
current. The user should insure the PC Card used with the adapter
works with that amperage. [Some PC Cards may require as much as
700-1000mA.]
