PCD-TP-110CS
PCI to PCMCIA CardBus PC Card
Reader
Installation Manual
Introduction
Installing this PCI-to-PCMCIA card reader is an ideal method to add a
standard PCMCIA CardBus PC Card slot to the front bay of a desktop computer.
With this product, the desktop PC user can enjoy the same PCMCIA functionality that a laptop PC provides. Windows XP, Windows Vista,
and Windows 7 will detect this product
and install the Windows built-in driver automatically.
Hardware Installation
Installing this product into your desktop computer is simple. Please follow
these steps:
-
Turn off the computer and all external devices connected to it.
-
Disconnect the computer from the power source. [Unplug the computer
power cord from the wall outlet]
-
Open and remove the computer case [Refer to your computer user manual
for instruction]. Always discharge static electricity before handling
any electronics components. You may discharge static electricity by
touching the metal chassis of your computer.
-
Locate the PC Card Reader unit and the two Flat Ribbon Cables that came
in the package. Unpack the Flat Ribbon Cables and mount them to the Card
Reader unit (see Step 4 Figure*).
-
[Optional] If you are going to install the Card Reader unit into an
unused 5.25” drive bay, you will need to install the optional mounting
bracket (see Step 5 Figure*).
-
Locate an unused 3.5” drive bay at the front side of computer.
With the Flat Ribbon Cables attached to the Card Reader
unit, slide the Card Reader unit into the drive bay cable-first (see
Step 6 Figure*). Once the Card Reader unit is installed in the drive bay,
secure it with the mounting screws included in the package.
-
Take the other ends of the Flat Ribbon Cables and attached them to the
PCI Interface Card (see Step 7 Figure*). Be sure to keep the cables
straight. Do not flip them over each other. Align the PCI Interface Card
so that the cable polarizing tabs match the polarizing slots on the
connectors.
-
[Optional: connecting ISA PaddleBoard] Skip this step if you don’t need
to install an ISA PaddleBoard.
-
Find an available PCI slot on the motherboard. Remove the screw securing
the expansion slot cover behind this available PCI expansion slot. Lift
the expansion slot cover out (see Step 9 Figure*). Save the screw for
later use.
-
Firmly, but gently, insert the PCI Interface Card into the available PCI
expansion slot. Assure that the card is seated properly before securing
it with the screw removed in step 9 (see Step 10 Figure*).
-
Put the chassis cover back on the computer [Refer to your computer user
manual for instruction].
-
Reconnect the power cord to the computer. Turn on the computer.
